The Master Guide to the Best Rides at Hollywood Studios

Welcome home! Whether you’re a first-time visitor of Hollywood Studios or a seasoned Disney Vacation Member, knowing what you want to do at a Disney World park can sometimes be overwhelming. Therefore, I have created this guide to give you some guidance to help manage/prioritize the chaos of your vacation planning! Keep in mind these are my personal preferences.

Hollywood Studios has a great line-up of rides, and is probably the park with some of the most fun rides, in my opinion. Your time in Hollywood may find you helping Mickey and Minnie or backstage with Aerosmith after a fast ride through the streets of Los Angeles.

Let’s walk the streets of Hollywood and learn about the five best rides at Hollywood Studios! Apparently there is a unique hotel around Sunset Boulevard that is very accepting of its guests. The only complaint I have heard is something about the elevators..

Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios

5. Slinky Dog Dash

I may not be a smart dog, but I know what roadkill is. – Slinky Dog

Coming in at number five on my list of best rides at Hollywood Studios is, Slinky Dog Dash. This is a family favorite of many, and rightfully so. Not only can the kids enjoy it as a thrill ride, but the rest of the family can too!

Slinky Dog Dash brings guests into Andy’s backyard and the queue does a great job of making it feel as such. The queue is full of oversized toys, colorful building blocks, and playful details that bring the idea of Toy Story to life. There are a few photo opportunity spots along the way as well, so grab a quick picture (just don’t hold up the line)!

Before you know it, guests will be in the coils of Slinky Dog as he takes guests on a wild ride through Andy’s backyard. As Slinky Dog races around Andy’s backyard, guests will soar through banked turns, zoom past towering blocks, and even catch glimpses of iconic Toy Story characters along the way. The track itself is quite smooth and creates a family-friendly thrill that can be enjoyed together.

From the moment guests step into Slinky Dog Dash they will be met with laughter, excitement, catchy soundtracks, and vibrant visuals. This is an attraction that will surely leave guests with a smile on their face afterwards!

This attraction does have a height requirement of 38in (97cm) or taller for any riders. There is not any upside down parts to this attraction either.

So whether you are a big fan of Toy Story or just another thrill-seeker, then be sure to fit Slinky Dog Dash on your must-do list. You will not regret the choice!

Rockin Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios

4. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

“Dream until your dreams come true” – Aerosmith

Are you ready to rock and roll alongside Aerosmith like never before?

I would argue that this attraction is Disney World’s version of a classic theme park rollercoaster, but inside. If that is the reason you came to Disney World, then this is the ride for you!

Guests will start off in the recording studio with Aerosmith before their show in Los Angeles. As they are leaving, they offer guests backstage passes and a super stretch limousine to get to the show in fashion, and of course.. quickly. This sets the vibe and story of the attraction while you wait to jump into the super stretch limousine. Be sure to look around at the Aerosmith memorabilia too, it is pretty cool!

As you pile into the sleek limousine-themed coaster, anticipation will build as you await the launch into pure darkness. Five, four, three.. accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just a few seconds into a whirlwind of twists, turns, and inversions that will definitely take your breath away!

Along the ride through Los Angeles guests will experience some stunning visuals accompanied by various iconic songs by Aerosmith. Nothing beats flying through the streets of Los Angeles with Aerosmith’s “F.I.N.E” blasting in your ears! The ride ends with guests arriving at the venue and onto the red carpet before entering the gift shop to see those silly photos (beware, the camera is right at the start of the ride)!

This attraction does have a height requirement of 48in (122cm) or taller for any riders. There are upside down parts to this attraction.

Personally, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is always a must-do attraction for myself as a thrill seeker and lover of Aerosmith. While you are visiting Hollywood Studios make sure to stop by and rock out with Aerosmith!

3. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

“Good times are here to stay” – Minnie Mouse

Looking for a whimsical attraction that will take you on an adventure through a cartoon universe? Here is there ride for you, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! This is always a fun ride and the kids especially enjoy it!

This is probably one of my favorite queues to stand in, once you are inside. Guests will file through a 1920s theater that is full of red carpet and vibrant movie posters while enroute to take a viewing of the new cartoon, “Perfect Picnic.” Once inside the viewing area the cartoon featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse (pre-show) will begin. At one point in the cartoon, Goofy crashes his train and comes through the screen, so make sure you watch out! Goofy then invites all guests into the cartoon universe and onto his Runamuck Railway!

As guests wonder through the movie screen, and into the cartoon universe they will join Mickey, Minnie, and their pals on an adventure through a series of unexpected events. One thing though.. you have to ride with Goofy on his train. Don’t worry though, Engineer Goofy will be sure to take care of his guests. But not before dodging runaway trains and dancing through a tornado! Guests get to experience an array of different rooms and scenes that will surely bring laughter and joy to you and your family. We got lucky and rode this attraction a few times in the same visit because we enjoyed it so much!

Fun Fact: Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride at any Disney Park that features Mickey Mouse and pals!

The attraction has no height requirement and is completely family friendly.

If you are looking to see some new innovation that has been applied to rides within Disney World then you have to experience Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. With its charming theme, this ride captures the essence of Disney magic and makes it an unforgettable ride. Stop by the theater and join Mickey and Minnie on a picnic!

Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios

2. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

“You’ve just crossed over into… The Twilight Zone”

If you did not know, this attraction is based off the television show, The Twilight Zone, which aired from 1959 to 1964. I have never seen much of the show, but that does not take away from the experience whatsoever! So do not worry if you don’t know much about the show, or plot.

As guests approach the hotel they will feel the hairs on their neck stand up as they are transported to the golden age of Hollywood, almost as if it is frozen in time. The queue is fully immersive and knocks it out of the park with its eerie ambiance, incredible detail, and mysterious artifacts. It sets the scene for the chilling tale of the hotel’s tragic past that guests will soon learn about.

For the pre-show guests will enter into the hotel’s library where a small television set will play an old black and white film. This film sets the stage and tells a brief history of the hotel. At the end, Rod Serling, creator of The Twilight Zone, will invite guests onto an operable maintenance elevator to travel into the Twilight Zone.

Guests will exit the library and into the lower maintenance floor of the hotel where they will board the elevator that Mr. Serling alluded to. Once inside, guests will float through the Twilight Zone and soon meet their fate. The elevator will suddenly plunge through darkness and through a sequence of unexpected drops. The Tower of Terror will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, and every ride the drops are different! That’s right, every stay at the Tower of Terror is a different experience!

This attraction does have a height requirement of 40in (102cm) or taller. This attraction also can be scary for the kids, or at least the pre-show and buildup to the ride itself.

For someone that is looking for heart-pounding and spine-tingling thrills, Tower of Terror is an attraction that you need to ride during your visit to Hollywood Studios. The attraction easily delivers an experience that is equal parts terrifying and exhilarating. So if you find yourself at the end of Sunset Boulevard, book yourself at stay at this lovely hotel – if you dare.
