A trip to Disney World is packed with fun and adventure, but it can also be wonderfully balanced with some downtime. Planning an “off” day allows you to recharge and enjoy some quieter moments amidst the excitement. Whether you’re soaking in the resort amenities, exploring nearby attractions, or even hitting the beach, here’s how to make the most of your leisure day at Disney World!

Disney World Off-Day

1. Enjoy Resort Amenities

Disney World hotels are not just places to sleep—they are part of the experience! Here’s some ideas on how you can enjoy a relaxing day at the resort:

  • Pools: Dive into the themed pools at your resort. For instance, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort features the pirate-themed Fuentes del Morro Pool complete with water cannons and slides! A day by the pool can rejuvenate just about anyone!
  • Spas: Indulge in a spa day at The Grand Floridian Spa or any of the other full-service spas across the resort for some top tier relaxation.
  • Recreational Activities: From bike rentals and horseback riding to golf, the resorts offer various activities to keep you entertained in a more relaxed setting.

2. Resort Bar Crawl

For those interested in exploring some unique dining and drinking options, consider doing a resort bar crawl. Start at the Polynesian Village Resort with a tropical drink at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, then head over to the Contemporary Resort to enjoy the views and cocktails at California Grill Lounge, and maybe finish at the BoardWalk with a nightcap at AbracadaBar. However you choose to do it, this is a fun way to see different resorts and enjoy some of Disney’s best cocktails and atmospheres!

3. Visit Disney Springs

Disney Springs offers a day full of exploration without the typical park crowds:

  • Shop: Explore everything from Disney memorabilia at World of Disney to unique boutiques.
  • Dine: Choose from numerous dining options like The Boathouse for waterfront dining or Morimoto Asia for sophisticated Asian cuisine. I go over the best restaurants at Disney Springs, here!
  • Entertainment: Watch a movie, bowl at Splitsville, or soak in the nightly live music. I highly recommend Splitsville for families as we thoroughly enjoyed our time there!

5. Play Miniature Golf

Take a relaxing break at Disney’s Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf, offering two 18-hole courses themed around the classic film “Fantasia.” Anytime we go to a place as a family we seek out miniature golf, and this place did not disappoint! It is also a great place to stop one night after dinner.

Just a short drive from Disney World, spend your day at Kelly Park, where you can tube down the natural Rock Springs Run, a crystal-clear spring-fed river! For those who prefer staying on land, there are ample picnic areas and walking trails where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll or a quiet lunch amidst the beauty of nature. This option is a refreshing way to connect with Florida’s natural beauty and enjoy a calm day outside the parks!

Cocoa Beach, about a 70-mile drive from Disney World, offers a day of sun, sand, and surf. It’s a perfect way to unwind and experience one of Florida’s most famous beaches.
